Alba, tubeworks or barnett clutch upgrade...advice and experience please

    Good morning all,

Wanting to do a clutch upgrade to my NA '19 YXZ 1000R SE but need feedback on the different set ups. Here is what i see for each.

    1. ALBA- looks to be using a relabeled Barnett clutch plate and doesn't have the wet clutch hub design of the tube works

    2. BARNETT- Kevlar plates but also not wet clutch hub design

    3. TUBEWORKS- Wet clutch plate (12) friction plates but a significantly smaller pressure plate than the other two set ups.

Any advice, real world experience and or ball busting is welcomed.

    Thanks in advance

I have the barnett pressure plate with kevlar discs. I like it a lot. Still going strong after >1000 miles of abuse.

I think the TW clutch mod kit is an unnecessary gimmick. I've never seen the rationale behind what they claim. Heck, there are guys out there with several thousand miles on stock clutches. The only reason I upgraded to the Barnett was that I had the damn thing apart to do the 70/30 gear reduction. So I figured I might as well put a stouter clutch in. Otherwise I'd still be stock.

What ever you do , do an oil mod on the clutch wether it's tubeworks or a modified one that allows the Barnett pressure plate. Avenger motorsports in Bakersfeild can do the machine work on the hub for you.

Did you smoke your OEM clutch? If so, the best solution is the TW oil mod as already said. For a upgrade in the clutch pack, I was told that the Alba clutch fiber discs were made to Alba's specs and that TW actually uses the Alba fibers in their kit. I think all three that you mention are all solid choices, but will all defiantly benefit from the oil mod. This is all dependent on the fact that your running a three pedal car as your sig suggests, if your in a SS then things change up a bit.

I Like the Barnett for the sheer beefiness of it and Kevlar always sounds better.

    Thanks for the feedback.

TW seems like the most comprehensive choice as it incorporates the oil mod. My machine is a 3 pedal.....ALL DAY LONG.
I did not burn my OEM clutch but it has gotten tender on a few technical sections no slippage but I don't like the smell of a tender clutch.

I am leaning toward the TW oil mod and Barnett clutch/pressure plate kit But have not made any purchases yet

That'll work! Did you ever consider a tranny cooler also?

Not a gimmick at all with TW cluctch oiling mod. I've burnt my clutch previously(with200 miles on Rekluse), plates on back half plate stack pretty much dry. Since then, installed new clutch and TW clutch mod and have about 1200 miles on it. Pulled out for GYTR 70/30, plates are fine and oil getting to them. Actually, never even had clutch fibers on my filter screen since then.
