Hi everyone new to forum and first UTV... 2017 Yamaha YXZ R SS, so I am not very knowledgeable on it

I would like to know what is the largest size tire I can put on my 2017 YXZ without having to make any modifications? I will be riding on open trails, nothing crazy (no rock climbing or sand)

I cannot seem to find a straight answer to this if 29 or 30 is ok, if this question has already been answered please send link!

Thanks in advance

with factory gears youll be happiest with 28s, i did 30s on my 16 and after one ride took them off, lost a ton of mid range pull and could barely pull 5th gear.
with reduced gears you can get away with 32s even, but keep in mind 30s and taller will rub the front quarter panels unless you get long travel. offset wheels will only make it worse.

You should also consider the weight of your tire wheel combo. Heavy will slow you down. I have a 2016 that I run with stock non beadlock wheels with 30x9x14 front and 30x10x14 rear Bighorn 2.0s. I have not weighed them, however they don't feel that much heavier than the stock 27s. The narrower 10" rear allows the car to pivot easier than the stock 11" rears. Really haven't noticed a performance decrease with the bigger tires. The car rides much better with the bigger tires. When inflated to 18psi the 30" bighorns measure about 29.25". When I was tire shopping I noticed that the truck style tires are really heavy. I did the 2019 gear change so the 30" Bighorns may not be the best for you. You may want to consider a set of 29" bighorn take offs. I would imagine they are about 28 and change inches tall. Unfortunately the 2019 wheels have a larger bolt circle so you cant buy a wheel/tire set. I bought new take offs on ebay for under $150 shipped per tire. Only been out a few times. Just finished the gear change, long travel, Alba SBD and bigger tires, waiting for better weather. Now I can get back to my active retirement.

Thanks, I don't plan on doing any mods so looks like I'll go with 28's. There doesn't seem to be too many 29's on the market but I guess to play it safe 28 should be good enough!

17 SS se with 30’s and stock gearing! Will never go smaller and have no complaints. Just have to change the way you drive a little!
