I just purchased a 2017 sport shift with 30-in Mongrels. No gear reduction, still stock exhaust.

A crawl force hi/low crawl box will be the eventual gear reduction. A Trinity stage 5 exhaust and tune will be happening soon. Most likely before I get to take it out.

In a facebook forum someone said 30s on a stock 17 will be hard on the machine.

Living in Northern California Mudding is not on my agenda.

Mountain roads/trails, desert running and crawling when necessary is.

What advice can be given and what are my actual concerns?

TIA

Welcome, not to be a downer, but unless you already have made arrangements I doubt you will be getting that crawl box that quickly.

Nice looking car, congrats, do you know the brand of cage that's on it?
Yes, it's a custom cage and rear bumper made by M1 off-road in Tucson, Arizona. He does some sick work. It turns out this was the first YXZ that he had done. Most everything prior was Can-Am and Polaris.

Heavy/Lightweight flywheel. I crawl with a lightweight, it's easy with one foot on the brake or just good throttle control. I have a 21 SS.

My cousin that had the heavy flywheel and 30" mongrels on his 16 went to a lightweight flywheel and is getting better results. It was too sluggish with the heavy for the Desert and Climbing at speed.... He did upgrade to a Barnett Clutch (3 pedal) because he was getting slippage also. He has no gear reduction.

The previous owner installed a heavy flywheel and gave me the stock flywheel. I recently saw an adjustable flywheel that had weights that you could add or remove. Might be something worth looking into.
