Sorry if this is a duplicate subject..

Looking for anyone that has experience with the Stock Fly wheel vs the Heavy Fly wheel on a Gear reduced tranny.

I've been driving with my heavy fly wheel for a while now.. first wo the gear reduction, now with it.. i run 70/30/30/30/15. Wondering if I'll loose much of my torque but maybe improve my launch if I go back to the stock fly wheel...

I figure there's got to be someone on here that has already played with both set ups... but I'm not seeing anything in the subject lines of the posts when searching...

Try the extra lite one . You may like it better.

I'm trying to cheat and see if anyone has already done the testing and the work :)..

I actually LOVE it right now, but I like to tinker..

I am in the same situation as you. Started with heavy flywheel then added GYTR(no 15 for 5th). It will crawl. Will still stall if im not paying attention however. I have considered going back to stock flywheel. My next addition will be 32x10x14 tires so i am holding out to see how it works. I have trouble shifting smoothly not sure if it is me or the heavy flywheel and the lower gearing. Subscribed.

I have zero issues shifting smoothly with my set up. bumping up and down through trails extremely fast.... only thing that hits me once in a while is if I drop it to 1st at too high a speed.. the drop to 1st from 2nd takes some getting used to ..

I guess no one has the experience I am looking for or has not had time to respond yet.... I'm going to try the FB page... cross my fingers I dont hear from any a$$holes on that site..

I wonder if Tubeworks has done any different fly wheel testing with their kits? If anyone has.. probably them..

I have switched between both the stock and heavy flywheel. Both ScottyMac and I like it better with the stock flywheel when combined with gear-reduction.

We are not big mud guys, but I will say that the heavy flywheel robs power as you move up the power band. I know that we both noticed a big difference when we removed the heavy flywheel and went back to stock.

For those fellow YXZers that don't have gear reduction, the heavy flywheel will help in slow rough terrain to keep your engine from stalling. However, with gear reduction it is not needed IMO.

Awesome.. thanks for the feedback.. I'm going to install the stock...

Here is a cut and paste from someone on YXZ Addicts..

Brent Ferguson Flywheel not necessary with gear reduction. The recluse clutch works awsome with gear reduction.

Mark Brink yea. a few here have said the same.. but im wondering if light wheel would provide any benefit with the reduction.. so far no one has said they have played with that set up..

Brent Ferguson Yes I did, and seen no benefit with the gear reduction. The only benefit I can see is on the dunes, the light flywheel would improve your rpm when climbing without downshifting. The heavy I wouldn't recommend using with the gear reduction, you will loose some top end and you don't need to lose top end with gear reduction. I found that the stock flywheel with gear reduction worked the best.

Mark Brink Brent Ferguson Awesome feedback!!!.. thanks... I've only used the heavy with gear reduction so far.. def looking forward to testing with stock...

Brent Ferguson I only recommend the heavy flywheel on stock gears and rolling slow or rock crawling.

Mark Brink Brent Ferguson did you do any testing with each wheel and launching? i would think the light would keep your rmp up when launching?

Brent Ferguson Yes, and found that the Ultra featherweight which is basically not using a flywheel at all had the best launch and top-end speed but the worst drivability. Imo, the lightweight and stock flywheels are the best, the Ultra featherweight is for racing purposes only.

Mark Brink your feedback is exactly what I was looking for.. Thank You!

I am heading to the Arizona desert today for a week of riding. I have the 45/15 and I will be trying the extra lite flywheel. I have the heavy one to that I will take with me Incase I don’t like the light one.

RSessions. You have 30in tires correct? My question for the most part is will the flywheel be needed if I am running 32in tires. The heavy flywheel is definitely not needed with stock tires like I am using now. I do mostly slow trail but don't want to kill my clutch when I do have technical situations. Very little to no mud for me. Don't like the cleanup.

I've read feedback on facebook... a few chimed in saying they had 32s with 70/30 gear reduction and stock fly wheel and have no problems.. only problem reported with that set up was "Thick mud"..
