One of the items that we regularly check on the Yamaha snowmobiles dry sump system is the intake screen for the main oil pump. This screen is in the bottom of the external oil tank, and is easy to access and clean by removing the line and two bolts. The screen will trap larger particles and debris as the oil is fed to the main pressure pump... remember, the oil is filtered after the main pressure pump. To delve a little deeper, the oil tank is fed oil by the two scavenge oil pumps... and the scavenge pumps will pick up everything they can, including all debris. As the oil in the tank is fed to the primary pump, any particles too large to go through the screen will become trapped. This is good for the main oil pump, as these larger particles can cause wear and damage to the main pump. While not extremely likely or all that common, there has been more than one case of a sled becoming restricted in this spot, and loosing the bearings in bottom end of the engine. The more miles, the more build up... so check it after the engine is broken in, and thereafter at every oil change...

Here we have a Yamaha snowmobile dry sump tank. Upon removal of the screen, it can be seen that it is pretty clean, just a little junk on there. No worries.

If someone completes this task on a YXZ, please post photos.

A quick run through the parts fiche shows the YXZ to have the same part number oil pipe/screen as the snowmobile unit shown above.

No, different part number, the mounting tabs look a little different... the actual tank doe look the same, though.

There is a screen, it is just not illustrated well on the fiche. The feed pipe part number for the YXZ is 8GL-13406-00-00. The 8GL denotes that this part comes from the 2008 and up Yamaha Nytro and later model Vector Snowmobiles.... it is the exact part pictured earlier in this thread, as that is a Vector tank and pipe.

Fahad, did you find what you were looking for?

A quick valve (Fumoto Valve) might not be a bad idea, just make sure it is well protected.

I don't think they make a Fumoto valve with that tiny of a threaded end. The drain plug on the tank is small!
