Just wanted to start a thread for those aftermarket guys. I think rewinding the stator to get more watts would be the cleanest way to go, if it can be done. We need to find out if there is enough room to allow for more winds. I don't really want to run an alternator if I don't have to. Just another belt to watch out for and keep the alt clean from sand may be a problem.
Any electrical guys out there willing to try to get this done?

The obvious place would be Ricky Stator ( i was actually surprised they were still in business). Not sure who else would do stator rewinds.

Google Ricky Stator. Been around forever. I bet they have one in the near future.
Maybe we all ought to drop a bug in Stator-man's ear and have him get on this now. If it's possible to do, it would be a gold mine for him cuz everyone's gonna want to do it. ! I've had him rewind several stators for me over the years, and he does an awesome job!

I just emailed him and ask if they would be able to do it. Just hope it has enough room to allow more winds. Sometimes the clearance is very tight so it's not possible. Hopefully it will be possible. Anyone know how to find it on the engine cut away?

Not sure, if could be done so easily, I heard about higher output for Z1, but actually was just very little difference in output compare to the stock. Like Desertdog set, not enough clearance around it....

I was told it will also depend on how big or strong the magnets are. If they are decent size it may not take much room for added winds but if they are small it will require more winds which then the clearance could become an issue. We'll see

They don't have anything for the YXZ at this time.
Cant we just throw a bettery in the stash spot behind the driver, then run the positive and negative wires to the existing battery? Thats what ive done with my hot rods-- the alternator charges both batteries..

Yeah but it would be nice not to have to do that. I may put second battery in the cargo box until something gets done.

Yamaha says the alternator kit won't be here until January. That's messed up. I am going to mount an Odyssey 925 as a second battery. I'll weld a bracket onto the passenger side motor mount bars. Plenty of room for it. I'll use that battery for the accessories. I'm going to add a 40" BajaDesigns light bar, radio, air compressor, GPS, and air pumper. Hope it works.
