The SS does have a ignition interrupter that kills the engine for a split second when shifted, so best to just keep it mashed. It is also by nature a noisy clunky tranny set up so don't let that bother you. You can get the MCU reflashed with the 19+ tune that will make it shift a lot faster too. If/when you dive into the clutch I would recommend staying with OEM clutches, they work great and the SS can act pretty funny sometimes with aftermarket and so-called HD clutch kits. A very important upgrade, almost a must have, is the Tubeworks clutch hub oil mod, this will really go a long way for you and really save a clutch. Funny thing, it is a small world, I'm A fitter also out of L.U. #83 Wheeling, but have worked in every corner of the U.S. . Good luck!

400 mile ride, WOW:) I'd watch a few videos on Youtube and see if yours is any different than others. I have never had a 18 or older ss just the 3 pedal, my 20 shifts instantly up or down.
