I'm currently replacing the rear coupler on a 2016 rear driveshaft. My question is IF I need to replace the rear coupler which I circled, can I do that with the diff in the machine. I've ordered a new coupler (33) in the diagram. I'm waiting to see if the internal of coupling (13) is stripped out.

Thank you for any help. The splines on the shaft are good so I lucked out there.

Yes, that side should be replaced too. I can guarantee that it is damaged too. That is not something that is easily done in the machine. There is a high torque nut on the pinion holding it in place. Also, while you are there, not sure of the mileage on your machine, but you might want to consider replacing the pinion bearing, the seal qnd the o-ring - numbers 20, 21 and 7.

I think sandaddict meant find no. 35. It is always destroyed and it serves an important function.

I agree with yes you need to replace that coupler section in rear differential and very hard to do in machine. Takes a good impact wrench to get loose. I have pulled my rear diff in about an hour and is about to happen again real soon when i pull my transmission out and overhaul it.

33 is the splined coupler which has shown to be typically under greased from the factory, and once that steel is dry, the splines strip and you loose read drive. for the cost of all the parts, just do everything driveshaft back and make sure its greased on reassembly

A very worthwhile upgrade is the Alba coupler and protective boot. I would highly recommend going with that set-up as the grease is retained much better with that boot. Plus the coupler is higher quality.

Buy the Avenger driveline and never worry about it again. It replaces the splined coupling with a CV joint. It nor cheap, but it's the best permanent solution.
