For years, Yamaha has used a similar 3-cyl motor on their snowmobiles and WaveRunners. Have they made any street bikes with that type of motor?

It was originally derived from a street bike, the 4 cylinder FJR 1300 with one cylinder cut off and has gone through several mutations.

Hopefully that means there won't be any reliability issues... since this isn't a "new" design, something that has been iterated over many years.

I don't think yamaha would release it with issues. In one video a guy from Yamaha states that they wanted it to be known for reliability. Putting an unproven motor could seriously hurt this machines sales. Jmo.

The FZ-09 has a triple, but it is only 847 cc's. Likely a very different motor.

The basic design is well proven and been around for a while.

This motor is basically the same motor they used in the Nytro and Viper. It is very reliable. I have 3 of them and never had an issue with any of them.

I'm sure it is quite different, but the power delivery and torque on my FZ09 is awesome, not to mention the sound. This YXZ should not disappoint in those areas.
