I bought a 2017 yxz1000r 3 pedal with a broken first gear. So I pulled the trans and found the first gear completely broken in half which put a hole in the case. I got the hole welded and new gears, which ever ones were broken. Then I got it back in and it drove perfect for probably 2 miles. Then I drove it on the trailer backed down and put it in first and when I started driving it had the worst clunking sound like it broke teeth off! Only in first. Anyone know why it would be doing this? Just breaking first gear.

Did you check all the shafts for straightness and bearings for excessive play? Maybe a bent shaft or damaged bearing is causing excessive binding and breaking the gear. I think I might be looking for a decent used tranny at this point.... Good luck.

Sounds like a bent shaft.
