Will the YXZ outsell the others?

Overall, I don't think so. It will be a big hit with folks (like me) that like to ride fast and aggressive. Like dirt bike/sport quad riders. But I think there are a lot of people out there who like going fast, but don't want to mess with shifting gears all the time. The good old CVT tranny works great for them. I don't see RZRs and Mavericks becoming extinct any time soon.

In the SXS world, nothing will ever "outsell" the other manufacturers. There is always something out there being built that is better than what is currently available .

I'd have to agree with you although I don't see the tranny as being the main issue. Look at the ATVs out there. Polaris still seems to sell more than the other manf even though the others are as good or better. Not really sure of the reason. Dealer network, loyalty, price?

I personally left Yamaha because they did not offer a sporty performance 4x4 ATV. Can Am filled that void nicely with their Renegade.
Not one has sold yet, who can project anything at this point.
I bet this Trans and Yamaha start to dominate the sport segment of the market. I don't think the shifting will be as big a deal as most people think it is.

A guy in another forum put it this way, right now they make a Swiss army knife. Basically they try to make one machine rock crawler , muddy , dunes and trail rider. They will start to make machines that are for specific types of riding and this unit will lead the way for the true sport guys.

This machine if it has a low range would be a great crawler. I bet the manual is the new flagship standard in the next two years for the sport segment of it.

I agree, I think manuals may start rolling out from other OEM's now.

Most SxS's cater to a wide range, you have your 1000's and turbos for those wanting power, but they are still fully usable where they will fit. And you have your work rigs and smaller general-use SxS's.

This seems to be the first that is aimed at a single particular segment; you want to go rock crawling or through the woods? This isn't your animal. This is the WOT crowd. If they are how they seem, I'd suspect to see them extremely popular at dunes and deserts. Which unfortunately Wyoming is lacking both....

The manual aspect is overplayed IMO. You literally push a pedal and tap a stick, what's hard about that? And you don't even need to pedal every shift. There is no throw, no gates, no missed shifts.

Just my thoughts having never owned or even driven/ridden in a SxS. It's always been something I've wanted and this is likely the first. Wouldn't mind a Wolverine for the mountains and around the house.
Its seems that most of the people r talking about the YXZ at wot all the time n r on flat open land. That's not all true this YXZ too me is going to be awesome on trails as well. I will not have a problem up shifting nor down shifting in any trail, in fact I will love it more just to be in the gear that I want to be in n to have that power when I want it. I think its going to be great for my style of driving period. I cannot wait to get this YXZ its going to be great to shift again. The trails n open desert is going to be a blast. JMHO
I also think since Yamaha came out with the 5 speed Can am n Polaris will also follow. If they do not they will be left in the dark. That rubber band was ok in its time but its time to move on, And thanks to Yamaha it has.

People are way to brand loyal for that to ever happen.

I know plenty of Yamaha,Cat and Can Am guys with blinders also.

Could not agree more..
I have owned CanAm, Yamaha and Polaris...not all SxS's but two of the three were and from new..as well as a couple of Yamaha bikes and a Homda, both street and dirt...
Loved them all and never had a problem with any that was not self induced and would not hesitate to go back to any of them.
The latest Yamahaw offering is intriguing purely for the manual option and not having to worry about burning a belt,..Yes, I am concerned on what the durability of the clutch is and have to hope all pre assessments on durability of these clutches is accurate and with the option of the Rekluse it makes it even more intriguing as my wife or others (dare I let them) could drive it if need be in whatever mode they were comfortable with..
Pretty sure the other manufacturers will follow suit eventually though the question is when...and if, CanAm had one announced soon and before I pull the trigger, the decision would be that much more difficult for me..anyway...
I've had I've had over ten yamaha s , four polaris SXS s , 1 maverickand 1 teryx. Rode and owned almost every sport model out there. But I've never been more excited about a model like I am with the yxz. I really miss the yamaha after riding the others. They all had fun factor but I was always worried about smoking a belt or a mechanical failure leaving me stranded. Everybody has a brand he likes better and it's yami for me.
It will take yamaha a long time to outsell polaris. The market will be spread out over several manufacturers now.

Doesn't really matter how well they sell, I just know that I am sold on it. So far, the yxz seems to be hitting the mark on everything that I would want in a side x side. Only thing left to do is to do some serious field testing.... Stuff like, wheel bearings, bushings, bearings, differentials, cv joints, axles... Just how well will that stuff hold up to east Tn-- idk, but we going to find out soon..

I'm like you. I ride a Raptor and a CRF450, so shifting up and down is just part of riding. I guess my main point is this new manual shift speed machine probably wont pose a huge threat to the mainstream SxS market.
Most Polaris RZR owners that have put on a lot of miles will not buy another one. I had 3 and still have my 2011 RZR 900 with over 10,250 miles on it. Plan on spending about $5,000 for every 10,000 miles. Well that is if you don't have a major engine or trans failure. The build quality is awful and they have major design problems. The warranty sucks and many owners have to beg to get warranty coverage. My warranty was turned down because I had too many miles on it in less then 6 months. My dealer could have gotten it covered but I was really pissed and just bought the parts and fixed it myself. Polaris has a fun factor that is worth the poor quality but now we have a choice and I expect Honda will cover the $15,000 to $16,000 price range with their 1,000cc sport model next year. Honda may also have a single cylinder sport model too. We all win and Polaris will have to step up and fix all their problems.
I don't expect yamaha to outsell Polaris or can am only other sport contender is Arctic Cat which would be the only one they surpass IMHO the first year. Main reason it's they don't have a variety too choose from just graphics and color. I'm not knocking Arctic cat since I own one but there lack of competitiveness kills them. The standard trans is another factor alot of folks are lazy or worried about shifting gears which I grew up on and no problem. But if yamaha brings out a few other mud, 4 seater options, turbo and rekluse standard then we have a whole new ball game let's hope they do.
I got banned on the rzr forum for drinking the yamaha koolaide and im a rzr owner. Go figure.
Quite certain there will be a 60" yxz with rekluse standard for the trail riders. If so I will have a deposit down faster than trump says he will get the illegals out of the country when elected.

Wow! Just saw you posting as recently as yesterday. What the heck happened? Didn't see anything bad unless it got deleted.

Am I dreaming or did you used to make an intake for the RZR 800? Engine mounted instead of frame mounted?
