Sequentially shifted trans doesn't need a clutch to shift.

I saw a post that referenced reaching down in a foot of water to push in the clutch to shift. I have seen a few others that seem to think you clutch each shift.

On a sequential trans they are dog boxes and not synchro mesh. You use the clutch to start and stop, but it is not required to shift up or down using the clutch. You catch each shift as the gear is unloaded with a blip of the throttle. It takes about a day to get good at it and then you will like it better than synchro mesh.

Most all high end sand car transmissions are this way. In the sand car they can be "H" pattern or sequential but all sequential are dog boxes. Tim

Can you utilize this clutch to make downshifts easier ? I know with both dir and street bikes I can shift uo or down by just the feel of the motor.

But when racing both I definitely needed the clutch for down shifts.
yes. You clearly have the Technique down on the motor cycle. This box will be the same thing. Tim

Here is the OFFICIAL word on it.

"It does not "need" the clutch. It is just like a sport atv or motorcycle manual transmission. If you back of the throttle and unload the transmission it is possible to upshift. This is much more difficult to do when trying to downshift. If timed properly it is possible but not recommended. Just like a sport atv or motorcycle."
Sounds like what I said........

Even the down shift can be done simply by blipping the throttle and catching the gears before they back lash. If you are experiencing engine braking then it wont down shift.

On my sand car it has become second nature.

This trans will be loved by some and hated by others. Dog box is what most racers prefer for the quick shifts. You can still use the clutch if you want to. Tim
