I saw a post that referenced reaching down in a foot of water to push in the clutch to shift. I have seen a few others that seem to think you clutch each shift.
On a sequential trans they are dog boxes and not synchro mesh. You use the clutch to start and stop, but it is not required to shift up or down using the clutch. You catch each shift as the gear is unloaded with a blip of the throttle. It takes about a day to get good at it and then you will like it better than synchro mesh.
Most all high end sand car transmissions are this way. In the sand car they can be "H" pattern or sequential but all sequential are dog boxes. Tim
